I have been studying this subject for a while, and it has become a bit of a hobby. How do we define beauty ? It seems that it does not matter if someone is male or female, white, black, brown, green or orange, with antennaes on their forehead, long flowing hair with locks or bald headed, they still manage to manifest beauty no matter what. I am talking about that magic hidden power that makes you turn around and look at a person a second time once you have walked past them. I have seen people who fall into this category and will not necessarily be classified as supermodels or Chippendale type. Can science be applied to derive a mathematical formula to calculate beauty ? I remember having seen somewhere a few attempts at this, but the details escape me. If you know where this information is, let me know.

This does not mean I do not have a theory of my own, as I have formulated my own way of measuring beauty. From my extensive observations of the human faces, both in my commuting life and in the media (TV, magazines, internet etc.), I have come to the conclusion that someone is regarded is beautiful (and this applies to both male and female) if the area on their face around their nose and mouth, which can be covered by the palm of their hand, has a certain symmetry. Am i making any sense ? Well, do the experiment for yourself. Take out someone's picture which you consider to be attractive to you, then cover up their face and leave just the area around their nose and mouth visible. Now do this for a number of people you consider attractive and unattractive, and you will see that the group containing attractive faces all satisfy this symmetry criteria which the other group does not.

One example I can think of about the proof of existence of  this symmetry area is Natalie Portman, who decided to shave her head earlier in the year, and as you can see, she looks just as beautiful as she did when she had a head full of hair.

As for me personally, I still believe that beauty is not just skin deep. The rest of the picture is a lot more complicated and require a lot more analysis before you can conclude that someone is as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. However, as we all know of the world today, first impressions do last, and beautiful people brighten up the world we live in, the same as us going to the Chelsea Flower show each year to admire the fantastic collection of different flowers and plants.
