Virus propagation via RFID
back
It has been demonstrated, at least in laboratory conditions, that it is possible to transmit or propagate malicious code via an RFID tag. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for how viruses and worms can propagate into corporate servers. An RFID tag can sometimes contain as little as 128 bytes of internal memory. However, using a blank tag and an RFID writer, the tag can be programmed with contents which are for a different purpose than simply tracking merchandise. The full report can be seen here. Is it just a theoretical threat ? or will this have powerful implications in moving the frontier in the quest for protecting our network infrastructure ?
